Project Overview
Hui Acoustics supplied ceramic-aluminum sound-absorbing panels for the Hangzhou Dianzi University Gymnasium, the fencing venue for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The gymnasium, known for its distinctive “Flying Saucer” design, was renovated from an existing basketball venue for the Asian Games. The renovation focused on improving the facility while retaining and reusing existing resources.
The venue hosted the fencing competitions of the Hangzhou Asian Games from September 24–29, 2023, with 12 gold medals contested.

The Challenge
A large sports venue contains extensive hard surfaces and a large internal volume, creating the potential for strong sound reflections, echoes and excessive reverberation.
For a professional fencing competition venue, acoustic control is important for maintaining a comfortable environment for athletes, officials and spectators while supporting clear announcements and event communication.
The renovation also needed to work within an existing sports facility while maintaining its future usability after the Asian Games.
